Landscape Institute competition: Transforming the Urban Landscape – LHC’s submission

‘Every street should be a wetland nature reserve, providing a daily dose of nature and community’

LHC Design have teamed up with the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust to enter the Landscape Institute’s Transforming the Urban Landscape international ideas competition.

Our entry is a manifesto for change in which local streets and neighbourhoods are a focus for a transformational Green and Blue Recovery.

We propose to bring life back into our streets and spaces by retrofitting green and blue infrastructure which prioritises pedestrians and cyclists, connects people with nature and creates focus points for community interaction.

These refreshed spaces would promote active travel and investment in local neighbourhoods. Newly integrated spaces with a focus on nature would address the linked challenges of the climate emergency, biodiversity loss, poor physical and mental health, and loneliness/isolation in our communities.
