LHC were commissioned by Newton Abbot Town Council to remodel the tired and neglected Victoria Gardens into a contemporary public garden. The design created a high quality, open greenspace which discouraged anti-social behaviour and reconnected visitors to the adjacent River Lemon. Several over-mature tree were replaced with new trees chosen for their striking foliage.

The design also successfully encouraged movement between the town centre and car parks. A new level lawn, visually and ecologically rich planting with semi-mature trees, bespoke seating, accessible footpaths and a new architectural lighting layout. Glass screens have been installed into the existing flood protection wall, enabling people to take advantage of river views, together with a suite of directional signage and interpretation panels, designed by LHC’s graphic design team.
