Oceansgate is a new Marine Industries Campus within the soon to be regenerated dockyards at South Yard, Devonport. LHC’s urban design team, along with Alder King and WWA prepared the masterplan for South Yard. The LHC architectural team was subsequently commissioned to design the new workplace and commercial buildings which will bring together marine businesses to create a world class hub in Plymouth.
The regeneration of South Yard is set to create 1,200 jobs in the maritime sector, secure the refurbishment of existing listed buildings, provide over 25,000 m2 of new commercial floorspace and provide careful provision for the site’s docks.

Phase One includes Endeavour House, which is a three-storey, BREEAM Excellent office building at the entrance to the site. It has been designed with flexibility in mind, and the floor layout can be subdivided to meet individual needs. Taking design cues from the surrounding dockyard environment, the building is book-ended in natural stone. This is mixed in with other materials such as render, profiled metal roof and metal cladding all of which are prevalent on the site
Also in Phase One, Endurance Court sits immediately behind Endeavour House and comprises two terraces of business space units. These were also designed to be flexible and the buildings can be sub-divided to meet individual occupiers’ specific size requirements.
Concepts for both were designed by LHC, who then performed the role of Client Technical Advisor during delivery. The buildings are being delivered by Midas Construction in line with our original design.
Phase Two of Oceansgate is about to get underway, and once again LHC has delivered concept designs for the new buildings.
