On International Women’s Day 2021 we are celebrating all the fabulous women at LHC Design.
Qualified, experienced and professional women are key members of each of our teams from Director to graduate level. We are lucky to have women architects, urban designers, landscape architects, architectural technologists and administrators.
Today we would like to recognise two women in particular who have both been promoted to senior roles during recent months – Architect, Jill Himsworth and Urban Designer, Amy Sanders – and acknowledge the contribution each has made to the business.
Chartered Architect, Jill, became an Associate in February. Her area of expertise is heritage and conservation, and she has been instrumental in growing LHC’s portfolio of this type of project in recent years including the redevelopment of former mental hospital, Tone Vale, near Taunton.
Jill is also keenly aware, as we all are, of the gender disparity in architecture, especially at a senior level and had this to say:
I’m really delighted that my skills and experience have been recognised with my promotion to Associate within the practice.
The RIBA has been aware for some time of the lack of opportunities for mid-level female architects and it’s great that LHC Design are succeeding in promoting greater diversity at a senior level within the business, to the benefit of individuals and the practice. I am looking forward to continuing to strive for the highest standards of design and developing our conservation work further which is where my real passion lies.
Urban Designer Amy, who became an Associate last August has an excellent track record in designing innovative and deliverable schemes and is currently leading on the design of a large scale, sustainable residential masterplan for a new settlement in Gloucestershire.
Director and award-winning architectural technologist, Glayne Price, commented:
