New senior appointments announced

We are delighted to announce that Ian Noakes and Alex Lammie have been appointed to the role of full Director within the business.

In 2018 we broadened the leadership of LHC Design to better reflect the multi-skilled nature of the company and to spread LHC’s ownership more widely and equally. Alex and Ian are part of this nine-strong ownership team and their promotions are the next step in the long-term succession plan for the business.

These two Director level appointments are part of a wider set of promotions to a senior level, with Jill Himsworth becoming an Associate and Jack Smith a Senior Architectural Technologist. They all demonstrate our confidence in the business and reflect our ongoing commitment to professional development. They are also an acknowledgement of the tremendous contribution each has made to the business over recent years.

Chartered Architect, Alex Lammie joined LHC in 2006 and leads an architectural team which mainly focuses on commercial, leisure and education projects such as the new Oceansgate Marine Industries Campus in Plymouth. Ian joined in 2008 and heads up the interiors team and is both an experienced interior designer and architectural designer. Ian Noakes’ portfolio includes South Devon College’s Hi Tech & Digital Centre, the remodelling of the Pynes Hill Aperture office development and the award-winning Science Park Centre on Exeter Science Park; but his first project on joining the business was the complex remodelling of the JCB Academy in Staffordshire which Ian mentioned here as he reflected on his time at LHC so far:

“There are moments in your life that you remember, one of those was an icy February morning in 2008 when I skirted around the perimeter of the National Marine Aquarium and crossed the threshold at Rope Walk into the then LHC Plymouth Studio. In the interview that followed, two things struck me, the challenge of the forthcoming JCB Academy project and my immediate feeling of belonging.

In the 13 years that have followed, the shared ideals that underpinned that initial discussion, and dare I say fuzzy feeling, have only been reinforced by the colleagues and acquaintances I have made over this time. In the same timescale, the challenges have kept on coming and growing, and although these are larger and more urgent than ever, I am as certain now as I was then that I am part of the right team at LHC Design.

As I start the next exciting part of my journey with the practice, I am grateful for the opportunity and support received to date, and look forward to carrying on the baton.”   [Ian Noakes]

This is the second set of promotions to be announced during the last year, and we all very much look forward to gathering in person to celebrate and congratulate Alex, Ian, Jill and Jack, but also Josef Horner, David Entrican, Steve Harris, Simon Teague, Annabelle Casinelli, Amy Sanders and Matt Oxley who were all promoted in August 2020.
