Clennon Valley Cycle Route gains planning consent

Torbay Council (Virtual) Planning Committee have approved LHC Design’s proposals for a new pedestrian and cycle link through the Clennon Valley in Paignton on behalf of Torbay Council.

The Clennon Valley Green Link is part of a wider strategy to improve sustainable transport links across Torbay and help people to connect with nature and use active transport to safely travel within Torbay, and connect with wider sustainable transport routes.

The proposal will create a safe and sustainable off road route for pedestrians and cyclists from residential areas along Brixham Road, South Devon College and adjacent employment areas and holiday parks to Torbay Leisure Centre & Velopark, Goodrington Sands and Paignton Town Centre.

The proposals accord with ‘Gear Change’ – The Government’s recently published Walking and Cycling plan. The Government plan identifies the potential benefits, stating that ‘Increasing cycling and walking can help tackle some of the most challenging issues we face as a society – improving air quality, combating climate change, improving health and wellbeing, addressing inequalities and tackling congestion on our roads.’

The scheme benefitted from ecological input from EAD Ecology and drainage input from Awcock Ward Partnership.
