Shortlisted for two international awards: Hi Tech & Digital Centre

The Hi Tech & Digital Centre at South Devon College has been shortlisted for two international awards. The three-storey lighting installation, designed by Michael Grubb Studio, has been shortlisted in the prestigious [d]arc awards in the category Structures – Best exterior scheme, and in the Surface Design Awards 2020 in the category Light & Surface Exterior.

It is the only south west building in its category in the [d]arc awards and if you are a lighting designer, light artist, interior designer or architect you can vote for it here.

The lighting installation powerfully reinforces the Hi Tech & Digital Centre’s curriculum focus on the growing hi-tech manufacturing, digital and creative sectors. It forms the façade of the asymmetrical drum which surrounds the main entrance and houses a 100-seat screening suite. This drum is a powerful feature of the building and one which the architects in LHC’s Plymouth studio designed to be both functional and beautiful.

Michael Grubb Studio are creative lighting designers whose projects include such spectacles as the lighting display at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. The studio delivers innovative designs which address how we perceive and interact with buildings.
