We survived our Dartmoor Charity Challenge (Just)!

Well, we did it! And it wasn’t easy! In fact Day 1 nearly broke us (it certainly broke Jill’s boots). The 17 mile hike across the wildest, highest, most remote areas of the moor, navigating by compass and map in the rain was tough, and was topped off by an abseil into Foggintor Quarry.

Day Two was sunnier and we split into two groups, with most completing our traverse of the moor by mountain bike while some hardy souls walked again. We completed the challenge by gorge scrambling up the River Plym.

We all have tired legs and blisters, but it was an amazing weekend. We’ve raised £3165 so far and would love to nudge this even higher for Routeways so if you haven’t sponsored us yet here’s a last chance www.justgiving.com/fundraising/lhc2018

It was brilliant to meet some of the Routeways team and kids at the finish line – and especially to go gorge scrambling with Brooklyn and Jacob. Routeways takes young people with a range of special educational needs and disabilities on adventurous and challenging activities, such as canoeing, gorge walking, rock scrambling, hiking, wild cooking and den building. The sessions help to develop many of the essential social skills that most of us take for granted, but most importantly the children get to have fun, increase in confidence and make friends.

LHC are fundraising to replace worn out kit and buy new, exciting equipment to help the charity offer even better adventures, to more youngsters on their waiting list.

Huge thanks to all our staff who gave up their weekend, to all our sponsors so far, to Wendy, Louise and Petra who provided a great picnic and to the Routeways team including Paul, Bob and Clive, for getting us safely from start to finish.
