Concept designs for Exeter City Futures building

LHC were appointed to provide some early stage concept designs for an exciting, new development on the Exeter Science Park.

The building is the proposed new home of Exeter City Futures, a Community Interest Company set up to transform Exeter into a leading, sustainable city by harnessing innovative technology and data analytics.

Located close to the Met Office’s new High Performance Computer building, the new world-class research and technology facility would serve as a base for businesses developing new ways to tackle the transport, energy and health challenges facing cities in the 21st century.

The building will promote and maximise the potential for collaboration and benefit from the attractive elevated views from the top of the hill. Plans include flexible open plan floors (with the potential to provide smaller enclosed hubs or workshop zones where required), connected by a spacious staircase with opportunities to stop and chat with colleagues and animated with meeting pods hung in the double height space.

In addition, LHC have provided designs for two new ‘Grow-On’ buildings, opposite the recently completed Science Park Centre and next door to the award winning Eagle House. Due to be submitted for planning approval shortly, the Grow-On buildings will be home to science businesses that have progressed beyond the incubation stage at the Science Park Centre, and require dedicated larger premises within the Science Park environment to continue to grow.

Designed in accordance with BREEAM Excellent guidelines, the two-storey Grown-On buildings will contain open plan office spaces, using natural materials and complementing the style of the existing Exeter Science Park Centre and Eagle House buildings.
