The ‘Fusion’ development by Cavanna Homes, a long-running project designed by LHC, has won one of the most sought-after awards in the construction industry at the Brick Awards 2015. Whilst the ‘Horizon’ development in Budleigh Salterton, a joint venture project with Cavanna, Clinton Devon Estates, LHC and Cornerstone, has been named the Best Partnership Scheme in Britain at the WhatHouse? Awards.
Judges at the WhatHouse? Awards commented on the design of ‘Horizon’ stating:
“There are an impressive 14 house types among the 48 homes, all designed in the local vernacular to sit comfortably in the landscape (a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty). The Exeter studio of LHC were responsible for the masterplan and design of the homes.
In their citation, the judges continued:
“Perhaps Horizon’s most enduring quality is the sense of how much each of the stakeholders really cared about its delivery and success, and it shows in the final product and the budding new community it is creating.”
Cavanna’s mixed-use scheme ‘Fusion’ which is off Brixham Road in Paignton, won ‘Development of the Year (South) for 51 Properties or More’ at LABC Warnty Bricks Awards.
LHC has been involved since initial concept stages, through masterplanning, architectural design and technical delivery. When complete, ‘Fusion’ will include around 220 two, three and four-bedroom homes, alongside commercial units such as a new Aldi store. It was conceived as a vibrant, sustainable extension to the existing community. The site is also home to the brand new £12 million Pharmacy Manufacturing Unit for South Devon Healthcare NHS Trust which LHC also designed and delivered.
Cavanna’s Technical Manager Darren Goodland said:
It’s a fantastic honour to have won a top award at The Bricks, and it’s a reflection of the hard work of all the people at Cavanna who care so much about high-quality construction. Now we’re working hard to ensure that the second phase at Fusion is built to the same very high standards as the first.
